As the professional theatre in residence at UNC-Chapel Hill, PlayMakers’ mission is to create transformational impact on our community through the creation and staging of theatrical works that challenge, expand, and beautify our hearts and minds.

As of today, PlayMakers is planning to produce nine plays in its 20/21 season, beginning in Fall 2020. We are working with UNC-Chapel Hill and local and state governments to determine the best ways to safely gather again.

What shows are you producing this year?

Our current lineup includes:
Edges of Time
Temples of Lung & Air
A Christmas Carol
The Storyteller
, a live reading of the Thomas Wolfe Prize-winning play
As You Like It
Blood Done Sign My Name

As we receive guidance from UNC-Chapel Hill, we will be making real-time adjustments to our schedules and productions as needed. These will be communicated as soon as possible, via email, our website, and social media channels.

What will shows look like this year?

The 20/21 season will feature six  streamed performances  ranging from  audio dramas  to film, ensemble to solo work, all enjoyed in the safety of  home  until we can gather again as a community.

How will audiences be able to watch PlayMakers this season?

Following health and safety guidelines set by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,  PlayMakers  will take to the virtual stage with our signature mix of  timely  new works  alongside  classic tales reimagined. Our six theatrical experiences will be streamed via online platforms like Vimeo or Zoom. Specific details and instructions about each experience will be sent to ticket holders before each experience.

How do I buy tickets?

This season will be a little different from past seasons because of our virtual experiences. You can buy a PlayMakers Pass, which will allow your entire household to view all six theatrical experiences. Pass holders have the ultimate flexibility of a 2-week viewing period. Approximately 4 weeks before each experience begins, we will also make individual tickets available. Individual ticket holders will have a 48-hour viewing period.

How many tickets do I need to buy?

For our streaming season, one PlayMakers Pass gives your entire household access to the full 20/21 digital season, which includes all the engaging entertainment you love to explore at PlayMakers—this season coming to you from the comfort of your own couch! Stream all six of our events anytime—and any number of times!—during the two weeks each production is available.

What if I don’t want to purchase all six shows?

We hope you might consider supporting this non-profit theatre company by getting a pass anyway. Regardless, for our streaming season, one ticket gives your entire household access to the show(s) of your choice! Single tickets will go on sale approximately four weeks before each stream is made available. You will have 48 hours from the time of purchase to watch the production as many times as you like. Want more flexibility? Get a Pass and you can watch all six of our events anytime—and any number of times!—during the two weeks each production is available.

I’m a season subscriber, what happens to my seats this season?

Don’t worry! When we are allowed to gather again in our theatre spaces, Mainstage and Full Season subscribers will have their same seats waiting for them.

My family and friends are used to coming together as a group. Do we need to buy one pass or ticket for each person this season?

No. You only need to buy one pass or ticket for each household. So, if there are six of you in one household, it’s like buying one, getting five “free”! If the members of your group live in different households, you will need one pass or ticket per household.

How do I get my tickets this season?

  • We MUST have a valid email address for each pass or ticket holder to ensure the security of the video file.
  • Pass holders will receive an email with instructions for accessing each theatrical experience, a few days before it is available for viewing. You will access your Vimeo link by logging into our website the same way you logged in to purchase your tickets.
  • Individual ticket holders who buy their tickets early will also receive their access instructions via email a few days before experiences are available. You will access your Vimeo link by logging into our website the same way you logged in to purchase your tickets.
  • Ticket buyers who purchase during the 2-week viewing period will receive an email within 1 business day of their purchase, with viewing instructions. You will access your Vimeo link by logging into our website the same way you logged in to purchase your tickets.

I really enjoy reading the Playbill for each show – how do I get one this season?

We love Playbills, too! A digital playbill will be emailed along with viewing instructions for each theatrical experience.
