Music, Book & Story by Steve Martin
Music, Lyrics & Story by Edie Brickell
directed by Tracy Bersley

an uplifting theatrical journey

Featuring the Grammy-nominated score by Steven Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. Inspired by a real event, set in many familiar locations in North Carolina, and propelled by an ensemble of onstage musicians and dancers, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion, beautiful melodies, and powerfully moving performances. It’s a theatrical experience as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.

“It takes only one production such as “Bright Star” to understand his [Martin] and Brickell’s ability to enthrall an audience with an engrossing story and wonderful songs that aid in telling their heartfelt and fun story”
La Jolla Light

Bright Star is the culmination of PlayMakers’ Summer Youth Conservatory, a six-week practicum for high school students—both on stage and behind the scenes—combining top-notch teaching with unparalleled practical experience. Students work with professional directors, choreographers, musical directors, and theatre technicians to mount a professional quality production for all to enjoy.

On Your Way to Asheville

Edie Brickell cooked up the inspiration for "Bright Star" while standing at the stove jamming to some Steve Martin banjo picking. They both ran with it...all the way to Broadway.
