American playwright and screenwriter. He was born in Panama City, Florida. His play The Inheritance premiered at the Young Vic in London in 2018, where it was called “the most important American play of the century.”(Young Vic website.) It opened in New York on Broadway in 2019. The play swept awards both in London and the U.S. with Lopez garnering a Tony Award as the first Latino writer to win a Tony for Best Play.

The Legend of Georgia McBride is being developed into a full-length film starring Jim Parsons as Miss Tracy Mills.
