Meet the Loman Family

Willy Loman (Jeffrey Blair Cornell*)
A PlayMakers resident company member, Jeffrey Blair Cornell, is no stranger to portraying complex, iconic characters. A graduate of UNC’s MFA program, Jeff has spent decades teaching and performing with PlayMakers, mentoring the next generation of artists. His portrayal of Willy brings a deeply personal connection to the role of this struggling dreamer.

Linda Loman (Julia Gibson*)
Julia Gibson’s portrayal of Linda Loman beautifully embodies the subtle strength and poignant vulnerability of a woman dedicated to her family. A PlayMakers resident company member and seasoned veteran of regional theatre, Julia has performed in productions across the country, bringing a rich tapestry of experience to this memorable role.

Biff Loman (Allen Tedder*)
A UNC dramatic art alum, Allen Tedder is returning to PlayMakers with a fresh perspective and a deeply emotional portrayal of Biff. A student of co-star Jeffrey Blair Cornell, Allen carries forward the legacy of UNC’s commitment to producing exceptional talent.

Happy Loman (Matthew Donahue)
Matthew Donahue captures the charm and restlessness of Happy, portraying the contrast of a man who appears outwardly successful yet grapples with his own sense of identity. Matthew is a current student of the Department of Dramatic Art’s Professional Actor Training Program.

Charley (Samuel Ray Gates*)
Samuel Ray Gates, a member of the PlayMakers resident company, infuses warmth and insight into his portrayal of Charley, Willy’s loyal neighbor and companion. Samuel’s layered performance serves as a touching contrast to Willy’s tumultuous journey.

Uncle Ben (Paul Carlin*)
Paul Carlin’s depiction of Ben, Willy’s intriguing and adventurous brother, adds depth and intrigue to this crucial role. Paul is making his PlayMakers debut and has appeared in a wide array of stage productions around the country.

Howard Wagner (Reez Bailey)
Reez Bailey masterfully captures the ruthlessness of modern business in his portrayal of Willy’s boss, Howard. Reez is a current student of the Department of Dramatic Art’s Professional Actor Training Program.

Meet the Creative Team

Michael Wilson (Director)
Michael Wilson, a UNC dramatic art alum, is a director of unparalleled range and expertise. With a career spanning Broadway (The Trip to Bountiful, Enchanted April), Off-Broadway, regional theatre, and even television and film, Michael brings a wealth of storytelling experience to Death of a Salesman. His return to Chapel Hill is a homecoming that makes this production all the more meaningful.

David C. Woolard (Costume Designer)
An award-winning designer whose work has graced both Broadway and international stages, David C. Woolard is known for his ability to craft costumes that tell a story. His extensive credits include The Who’s Tommy and Crazy for You, and his designs for Death of a Salesman evoke the essence of mid-20th-century America.

Jan Chambers (Scenic Designer)
A PlayMakers company member and professor at UNC, Jan Chambers’ stunning scenic design for this production brings the Loman home to vivid life. Jan’s work is a cornerstone of PlayMakers productions, and her designs are both evocative and immersive.

John Gromada (Sound Designer/Composer)
John Gromada, a Tony-nominated sound designer and composer, creates an auditory landscape that heightens the emotional weight of the play. His Broadway credits include The Elephant Man and A Few Good Men.

Carolina Ortiz-Herrera (Lighting Designer)
Carolina’s dynamic lighting design captures the shifting moods of Death of a Salesman. A rising star in theatrical design, Carolina returns to PlayMakers with another beautiful design.

Tao Wang (Projections Designer)
Tao’s innovative projections add a dynamic, modern layer to this classic play, blending technology with timeless storytelling.
