Each character tells their own story throughout their color palette.
It was imperative to express the emotions of grief, love, and most pressing JOY.
The journey which led the Crump family to Brooklyn is a landscape of intentional hues.
Sabrina Guillaume-Bradshaw, Costume Designer
Sabrina’s approach to costume design for this production is rooted in the symbolism of color. Each character’s wardrobe reflects their inner world and relationships with one another. For example, the muted tones of the father, Godfrey Crump, symbolize his struggle with grief and his desire for stability, while the bright, bold hues worn by his daughters capture their youthful energy and yearning for freedom. As the story unfolds, the colors in their costumes evolve, mirroring the family’s shifting dynamics and the broader societal changes around them.
By carefully selecting a palette that speaks to the characters’ emotional states, Sabrina’s designs will guide the audience through the Crump family’s journey, making every shade a subtle storyteller. This thoughtful use of color not only enhances the visual appeal of the production but also deepens the audience’s connection to the narrative, allowing them to see, feel, and understand the family’s story in a new and impactful way.
