The Joan H. Gillings Center for Dramatic Art is several buildings in one. Built in 1998 as an expansion of the Paul Green Theatre (est. 1976), the Center houses two theatre spaces and five studio classrooms shared with the UNC-Chapel Hill’s Department of Dramatic Art; a rehearsal hall; fully-equipped scenic, prop, and costume shops; plus administrative offices for both the Department and PlayMakers. In 2017, the building was renamed in honor of generous philanthropist Joan H. Gillings, ensuring many more years of exciting, innovative, and socially conscious work.
