Fat Ham is a contemporary, comedic adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet by playwright James Ijames. Set in modern-day southern America, the play reimagines the iconic tale with a diverse cast of characters facing issues such as identity, family dynamics, and societal pressures. Hamlet reimagined as a queer Black man named Juicy, grapples with grief, betrayal, and the quest for justice after the suspicious death of his father.
Patrons should be aware that Fat Ham contains mature content that may not be suitable for all audience members. The play features strong language, depictions of violence, and explicit sexual content, however, those who can engage with its themes will find it a rewarding and impactful theatrical experience.
